Every once in a while there’s a rash of these kinds of questions.
With respect to their respective missions… they’re all the best. They do the jobs they’re trained to do. Nobody else is trained specifically to do those jobs.
If you mean, who is the meanest, none of them, actually. I know quite a few who were in special units. A few live in the area. One breeds and trains border collies. One writes songs, sings, and plays the guitar… pretty good too. Another teaches martial arts. A couple are just retired and live here at the Veterans home. One of those is a counselor for guys coming back from the Middle East with issues. The other is going back to college Spring Semester to get his Red Cross Lifesaving and WSI certificates current. He’s represents the Home on a city community services oversight committee. All these guys are just terrible people. Some of them have kids, some don’t. Some of them have taught in school. Some have taught in college. Some have even taught in Sundy School. Is that what you mean?
If you mean, who are berserk killers, none of them. Those maniacs are screened out before they make it very far. Guys like that are a danger to themselves, to their buddies, and to the missions on which they’d be sent.
I was chatting with one on the internet. How did I know he was SF? Unimportant. I knew. Anyway, I asked him how he was doing. He said not too well. He said that sometimes he’d wake up in the morning dreading having to go out and take out another target. But some days he’d wake up and kind of wonder who he was going to “get” to do that day. I told him, in my experience he was ok. The fact that he recognized the problem and it worried him was a good sign. It meant his moral compass hadn’t tumbled. But I also suggested that if the second days started outnumbering the first days, he might look for another job. These guys aren’t invulnerable. They’re people. And sometimes some of the stuff they have to do bothers them. They’re just trained and equipped to do it better than anybody else on the planet.
But, for my money, the meanest are the guys who fly the A-10 Warthogs. You have to blow them out of the sky to stop them, and you can hear them approach… like the enemy can hear his death approaching. If you hit the plane, it just makes the pilot angty. You can blow pieces off the darn thing that would knock most planes out of the sky…. it only makes the pilot angry. And, like Mother Nature, it’s not nice to fool with a Warthog pilot… at least when he’s in his plane. But they’re not SF.
