Although video gaming is not a new phenomena it really only took off with the introduction of the Nintendo Game Boy some years ago. However this changed in the 1970’s with the introduction of more sophisticated computer arcade games.

Late seventies and early eighties is when it really took off with numerous hand held games being introduced but it really came to fruition with the handheld Nintendo Game Boy in 1989.

In 1994 many new video gaming platforms where introduced but one, the Sony Playstation outstripped them all. Since this launch Sony’s Potable Playstation became one of the favorite entertainment gadgets in most households with kids and even those without. Sony Playstation paved the way for ultimate gaming experience for many enthusiasts.

Today video games are a great medium for social bonding, and a well deserved break from the stress of modern living. We now have a distinctive list of platforms to play the games on which include the following

The future is already here and the development of games to be used for learning and exercise is being utilized in homes, universities and schools. They have also been used in the training of aircraft pilots, astronauts, and for military training. Sick and injured people are also able to incorporate them into there therapies.

While it would be nice to teach your children the proper use and interaction with there video games I suspect that it will probably be the other way round and the children will actually be teaching the parents. Video games can be very social where you meet new friends and create new relationships and bond with your gaming partners. But you must be aware that there can be negatives as well and you should watch that your children do not acquire anti-social behaviors. You should not let them become game obsessed and allow themselves to be taken away from friends and family to spend hours alone in front of there video consul. It has just been on the news that a famous tennis player has been dumped by his girlfriend because he spends up to seven hours per day on his Playstation.

The popularity of video games is still on the increase, the games are becoming more realistic and the advancements in the technologies involved are not slowing down. Just remember that video games are like any other indulgence, a little does you good but too much can be bad.
